Hey there. I'm just finalising colour choice for the interior of my 1968 Deluxe and wanted to take feedback from anyone so feel free to put up your opinions or advice.

The exterior will be Sapphire Blue with a white roof. This is the colour here - sorry I believe this example is taken from another forum user's post (thanks).

For the interior I was considering grey and a cream type colour, I found this which is pretty close to what I was thinking. Seats cream middle with a charcoal/grey outside. Cream door cards.

Then this charcoal carpet.

Now the thing is I was also thinking of having black: The centre Cooper style binnacle will be black (with magnolia gauges), the front dash shelf and dash back, the pocket liners and the parcel shelf; and the speaker mount under the rear seat will be black when installed sometime in the future. I was thinking black for these partly because they are ready made items so I can buy them easily rather than trying to get the upholsterer to create them, tracking down templates etc. But also I think a cream on the rear parcel shelf might reflect badly in the rea window when looking through the rear vision mirror.

Questions:
  • What do you think?
  • Do you think the black dash/pocket liners/parcel shelf will fit in with that? Or should I try to get that custom done?
  • What do you think about having such a light colour on seats and door cards in terms of getting marked?
  • For the white roof - I noticed that Snow White was the white available that year (1968), do you think this is a good white to go with, and would that also fit well with the cream
  • I'm super keen to see pics of other interiors so if you have them feel free to post please!

I am thinking that I could do as planned above, then if I don't like the black parts I then have a physical version I can take to the upholsterer guy in the future to upgrade. The door cards are about $160 each so I could plan to redo those in a few years if needed. Hmmm

(build thread here (clicky))

Thanks a lot TweedGrey, very helpful. I'm not overly focussed on it having to be exactly period correct, but I'm also not going to put bucket seats, different dash, metallic paint, 13" wheel etc. basically it will look fairly period-correct in the style at the time without being anal about it :)

I've found a local guy (Cardiff Auto Trimming I think they're called), who was recommended by others in the car community. He said he's done heaps of minis; I'll check out his past work before I commit.

I think I'd prefer the truer white as I think it would set off the blue better. But the creamier white would fit in better with the interior so that may be the best way to go. Thanks for the info.

I think I've settled on the black for pocket liners, but they sell the uncovered dash backs, so even that as a nice detail may tie it all in nicely and could be done by my upholsterer.

Good to get external feedback.

Hi there Morbo28

Really digging your ideas. I can help out with your dash thinkings - I chose to go the magnolia gauges with black dash vinyl and dash cards. I think it looks really killer, mine below:

In terms of your white roof - The snow white is a slightly more dull creamy colour. If you're looking for a nice white I really like the Crystal White. If you ever wanted to put stripes on your car they match better with the crystal white I find.

Cheers
James
