Is there such a thing as a better version made anywhere?
All the popular web sites seem to have much the same thing.
Considering that it's the "heart" of the beast, is a turbo version any better?
Talking 1275 A+ if that makes any difference.

Having just lost my virginity on an A series motor removal / strip down, I thought there wasn't much holding the pump in place. Only two small bolts go thru the pump into the block. As it takes a thrashing from the cam, this seems a bit inadequate to me??

It all seems to work. From memory Vizard recommends filing the entry way to remove some sharp corners, but that was on pumps from back in the day, new pumps may be fine.

There is such a thing as too much pressure: more pressure = horsepower loss. Although better to have too much than too little!

Interested to hear peoples opinions on this.

The A series oil pump is up to the job for pretty much everything except full-on turbo motors, which need the extra flow.

I can't remember if it was Vizard or Keith Calver but one of them worked out the standard pump has something like 30% more capacity than needed.

Nothing wrong with two bolt mounting either, it's just a pump, it doesn't need to take the output of the motor!!

Fitting a new clean pump will get the job done... plenty of other areas in there than can use improvement... oil pump, not so much.

cheers,

Jacob

Many new pumps have insufficient chamfer on them where they sit in the block. This prevents good gasket sealing and they gulp air..
I have just removed a pump twice before finding this was the problem. A thicker gasket didn't work either.
Solution- grind, file or sand a 2mm chamfer on the new pump's body if it's not that wide already.

As Vulcan said the Metro turbo pump is overkill, unless you have a turbo which need the extra oil flow.

Thanks for the info again Doc.
So could you / would you use the body of the existing pump
with the rotating parts from a new one?

No, because the body wears as much or more than the rotors do.
Also the new parts may not necessarily fit in the old body, there have been various pump manufacturers over the years. God knows who makes some of these pumps now. I don't.
Just use a new pump and chamfer it. Simple...
