Post subject:  Faulty alternator or regulator

Hi,
My Battery recently died and I replaced it. I was checking the charging system and it seemed ok. I checked it again the next day and at idle the battery was reading about 15 to 16 volts, when I bought the revs up it went up to about 17 volts, way to high. I think thats what cooked my last battery as it wasnt very old. I have a 15AC alternator, the external reg isnt a mini one. Would the problem more likely be the reg or the alt as i have about 3 other alternators i can use, all 15AC but I dont have any spare regs.
Thanks
Steve.

Thanks Doc, I messaged Convertible Mini, hopefully he can help. Otherwise I guess I could just get a internally regulated alternator.

In a PM You asked me for a regulator! I replied asking what alternator you have and you did not reply. If it is an external Regulator you are after for a 69-71 car. I do not have any. I do not get enough call to warrant me making a good order to get them for a reasonable price. You might be lucky enough to find a good second hand one.
Would be cheaper to buy a new Alternator unless your car is being kept original.

Ok thanks mate, didnt recieve your PM. I think I may just get a new alternator, it is far from original, so thanks for that.
