Hi all, The cooper s rebuild draws to a close, it also coincides with a new job I'm taking overseas for a few years...timing!! I'm planning on keeping the car, far too much blood sweat tears and money invested! Does anyone have any experience with outdoor storage for their cars? I will be keeping it at my mums but she only has an uncovered car space down the side of the house. I'm thinking about a carcoon to protect it from the elements and keep it nice and dry. Any other suggestions?? cheers Steve |

Carcoons are great but I wouldn't have it open to the elements. Shout your mum a carport with the side enclosed. Edit. I have only seen the indoor type. Not sure how well the outdoor one would last after a few years. |

They do have an outdoor, double layered carcoon that I've got my eye on. |

Yes saw that. A work mate in Townsville put his EH in a carcoon in his shed for 3 years whilst he was overseas. He didn't have any issues. My S is in a shed at my dads but not in a carcoon. I just fishoiled it and wrapped it in heaps of sheets, blankets and a car cover. Only problem I had was that my dad started to use the cars roof and bonnet as storage space. ![]() |

I was curious about the energy costs for the unit. It turns out it's not bad costs per year to run the 'coon. About 11 dollars worth of electricity (using 0.44 Amp (5.3 watts) continuously to run the twin fans) |

If the car has value to you, rent a storage shed in one of this big complexes. Choose one on the outskirts of town where rental is cheap and stuff the car in there. Out in the open will destroy it. |

I'm in favour of the storage facility idea. At least its safe and out of the Elements. Storage containers are good if there's room, also they'd need vents added, it gets damn hot in one on a sunny day. |

Do not put it in a container it will rust so much moisture in one of them, shout a carport and coon it too, or yes storage shed is another option but dead money I'd prefer to spend the money on your mum and the mini then a storage shed |

Thanks for all of the advice! I've eventually gone with the carcoon and the small carport idea. The carcoon is an amazing piece of kit, keeps the car dry and moisture free and the battery on a trickle charger. With that and the carport it seems like the best way to store a car outside. I will update the build when the car is finished hopefully this week sometime! Cheers. |

Storage containers are secure but as I mentioned, they do need vents fitting. |
