Soooo I had the minimatic alternator in the old girl swapped out with a bnew 70amp one. (well my technician at work did)

battery light comes on a bit. But wont start. LOL what has he done? what should I check? did the standard minimatics still have positive ground? it had a radio in it previously that I took out.

I'll bung the old one back on tomorrow first and hope for the best. Then probably get an actual sparky to do it for me.

Is there anything I need to do before hand though? like change wiring over or what not?

Early Matics had a generator and positive earth. (though the polarity is easily changed)
Later Matics had an alternator and negative earth.

Did you take generator off and fit alternator? If so, what did they do with generator wiring/regulator? Maybe problem is there?

On a side note, you should have another cable running from the alternator to the positive terminal (the starter solenoid is a good place to run it). The original alternator was designed to run maybe 40amps max? If you run more current though those old wires they can heat up and do bad things. That's why the alternator has another terminal on it (I think it's the once covered by the black plastic in your picture). You should run a thick cable from there to the starter solenoid to be safe.

It's unlikely to cause issues as is, but if you are using any extra current, use the extra wire.

The new 70 Amp Alternators I sell come complete with fitting and wiring instructions and the extra load cable that is necessary.
