Replacing front cones in Laingy's van... getting the old corroded *&^$( trumpets out of the rubber cones is a pita.
After trying all the common methods of removal yesterday with no joy, we finally hooked up my Supercrap air chisel.
Rat-a-tat-tat, instant success. 8)

Thought it worth sharing.

Hold the trumpet by the ball joint end and whack rubber cone sideways against old tree stump. If necessary, rotate 90deg and whack again. Continue as necessary

That way you don't damage anything - just in case the cone is salvageable.

Cheers, Ian

That's fine, if out of the car... but these were still in.
Both cones on this car look like donuts, it was sitting on the bumpstops.
Had to turn the cones 90deg to horizontal, to get them out.

[edit] typo

I had to use a fencers crowbar and belt it with a sledge hammer

I put the aluminium cone in a bench mounted vice and hit the rubber cone with a 2.2kg sledge hammer. Worked well for me!

They can be a s#it to get out of the subframe when they all squished and old. I use my 500mm long snsp on prybar to force them out and air chisel once on the bench...
