Post subject:  Use Lock Tabs in Gearbox?

So I found a thread on the Mini Forum posted by "Gearbox Guru" which states.......
Loose the lock tabs which previously held the bearing retainer in place.
Clean the bolts for the bearing retainer and install using ThreadLock
Tighten and torque to 15lbft

Has anyone done this? Seeking a second opinion please.
I guess the bolt hole also has to be clean (no oil) so that the threadlock holds.

The referred 'bearing retainer' is the one holding in the lay-shaft retainer.
The top lock tab has a locator tang, and one bolt.
The lower one is located between both bolts.

Later cars with rodchange box had spring washers & no locktabs I think.
I always use spring washers + Loctite 262 on the threads.

Thanks Doc.
Is there anything special about the 262 variant?

It's called super studlock. Holds well but can be undone without heat.
Loctite 242 would be good enough.
