My Mini Deluxe (early 1968) is being prepared for it's first restoration in it's 47 years (not counting the abysmal paint job it was subject to by an earlier owner). It is extremely original in almost all respects, but if the patches of surface rust are going to be adequately attended to, and the paint job is going to be what I want it to be the whole car is being repainted in its Malmo Green.
One of the first components to be removed has been the speedo binnacle (the OEW one with just the speedo itself). One of the speedo mounting holes (lhs) has bits broken from it and this needs to be repaired before reinstallation. The other hole is not so affected. The bottom mounting holes have the bottom edge broken away but I'm of the opinion I can fashion shaped washers to allow them to take the load at the screws.
I have talked to a plastics welder who can't determine what sort of plastic it is made from so can't do a build up weld.
Anyone had success in patching these holes with something available from the retailers?

Not sure about repair but I managed to find another binnacle for my Cooper S when the original binnacle developed similar cracks to yours

Glue or lay a repair patch inside the cracked part (cover the hole to make it stronger) then re-make hole and re-assemble (or go get another from a wrecker)

Its very hard to find replacement ones that aren't cracked in the same place, it must be a weak point because they all seem to go there.

Fibre glass mesh and expoxy resin should work and remain strong

i prefer aluminium mesh as you can carefully melt it into the plastic with an old soldering iron
