Post subject:  Will this battery suit the mini?

Hi all,

Bit of a novice when it comes to this kind of thing, but I am able to get my hands on an Odyssey PC680MJT for quite cheap.

Just wondering if anyone's had any experience fitting these 'dry cell' batteries, and whether or not they'll suit a mini? I've a feeling the terminal connections might not be the same...

It comes fully charged so I shouldn't need to buy a new charger just yet...

The CCA looks pretty low but someone with more knowledge than me should be able to tell you shortly :)

Yeah Chux

I was thinking that might be an issue, but we'll see!

I reckon you'd regret buying that battery the first time you try to start it on a cold morning and it didn't start first go...

People with race cars have a big jump pack to get their cars started on a cold race morning.

I have a big calcium battery and I love it - yesterday I started my car for the first time since 3rd November (last day I drove it from the log book) - battery was still fully charged and started it no problems at all

Yeah Simon you're probably right!

Might give this one a miss then and get an actual battery that will fill the hole in the boot. That way there's no messing around with extra brackets and terminal changing!

Cheers folks

just a note on the cca of that battery. i dont think it would be a problem at all. maybe in seriously cold weather.
i have load tested the battery in my mini before (which is already quite old and was never maintained properly by PO) came up at 90cca, and it would still kick her over long enough to get started after playing under the dash for a couple hours with the radio going.

I run one in my race car with high comp and have never had a problem starting it. You cannot let them run low on charge though or it wrecks the battery. My Lotus Exige Cup 260 car also runs one as standard. Its a 2L supercharged engine that runs massive comp and starts first time every time even in the middle of winter. they are a great battery but only worth the money if you need to save the weight or want to mount it sideways, upside down etc.

It will be fine. I'd just run it on a trickle charger if it's parked up for long periods.

If you want to save some money, the Fullriver HC20 is almost exactly the same battery for about half the price. Check the dimensions and CCA.

This company does a nice box for not very much as well:
