Ok so here are a few pics of our 77 Leyland, picked it up for 5k, don't know if that was too much or a good buy looks a bit beaten up but nothing major, engine turns over but no firing, brakes need to be hooked up, exhaust is there just needs attaching, been told engine and gearbox were recently done. While I can do some mechanical work this is a little out of my abilities but would love to learn some more of the basics, I'm wondering if there is anyone out in the western suburbs of Melbourne who wouldn't mind popping in to have a look, or if there's a regular meet up I'm happy to do BBQ and home brew on tap |

Is it a 1275 LS? from the photo's the body looks pretty ok. If you can get the mechanicals sorted out without too much trouble it will be a nice little survivor car as it is. |

Lewis - if you post a pic of the ADR compliance plate you will get an explanation of exactly what model it is, and some advice on how to best get it back on the road. As mentioned above, the presence of the spot lights means it could be an LS. Are they Marchal brand? |

Unless I am mistaken pictured of engine would suggest 998/1098. when you say it wont fire can you give a bit more detail? what have you done / not done since buying the car. Was it running when you bought it but now stopped?, has fuel been sitting in it for a long time? does it have fuel? is there spark ?? If you can give an idea of what you have checked so far it may help narrow down the problem or at least discount things. |

It was not running when we bought it, had dad who is mechanically minded have a 10 min look at it but due to time was not able to have a decent go, we put fresh fuel in and hooked up the battery which had surprising amount of life in it, ill try get a plate up as soon as I get home, would have to see about spark. I'm glad you guys know more about it than I do at just these pics, I was only going off what the guy who sold it to me said. He also mentioned the rims came from England at a fair cost, looking at cleaning them up. |

The press release was April 1973 and the ID plate is March 1977 so the vehicle specification may have changed in the meantime. John Sneddon will know. |

They had to drop the 1100 motor when Zetland closed at the end of 74 and used imported 998 motors from the middle of 75. |
