Post subject:  A random paint question
G'day. I thought I'd just ask a silly question. My mini is painted in scarlet O'Hara red BUT it's a '76 model. Isn't that colour a 77/78 colour? I suppose it's not too far apart but is this odd or common? Cheers.

You mean that is the actual colour - or what the paint sticker says?

If the former, it could have been repainted any time in the last 40 years to a previous owners preference of that colour.

If the latter, then who knows?

The Dulux books is what everyone uses to tell the years that a paint was used and are not really accurate with the dates, they are just a guide.

My books list Scarlet O Hara as a 73-75 colour.

Mine's a 76 Clubby painted in Scarlet O Hara too. Mine is a very original car with Dulux sticker as well. I hadn't thought about it until now.

From what I have seen it was introduced in 74

It was on the 1973 Marina colour chart so it would have been introduced in 73. I assume it was used on the Mini at the same time.

That would be very possible, the most books I have found so far don't mention models for paint codes only the year so it could have been on any Morris of the day. I have found it pretty hard to cull the list to exactly which ones were used on mini's and which ones weren't especially in the early years.

Even though it was a Marina and Mini colour I don't see it listed as a P76 colour.

A couple more items to throw into the mix.

Firstly, below is a page from the Spartan Guide for 1970-1980. Scarlet O'Hara appears in the 1973-76 list.

Later Leyland Australia paint colour cards had the vehicle application on the back of the colour chit. The set pictured below doesn't have any date information, unfortunately. Scarlet O'Hara is not listed.
