Oh dear!

You wil need more than a few spanners... you will need a torque wrench, a large ball joint sized socket and probably a ball joint splitter. It's a fair bit of work...

Actually come to think of it, if you were to do it properly (I would if I had to do it, do both top and bottom) you'd need to remove the brakes from the wheel hub... BIG job...

anyone who is mechanically adept can change a ball joint. one spanner, one jack, some stands, a torque wrench & socket if you really must, and something to lock the tab down on the hub - very important, a bit of grease, ball joint splitter, BFH. shims and new locking tab come with the new ball joint if i recall correctly ans they are cheap as for the job they do. i have not replaced one for ages - but it is not rocket science.

find a book, or download some from the stuff JAM put up - has pictures to make it easy

okkher so the mechanic says stuff, i say i dont even know what it is and he said ok he ask if i know how to 'do' it. so for the mini to be roadworthy, i need to fix it but something so tell me, i need a new Right hand lower ball joint, cause its 'stuffed'? can i, with one trolley jack, and a couple of spanners, fix a new ball joint in? i mean i dont really even know what one is. anyways how much do they cost and where do they exist for you guys from?

I would not worry about it if you were going to drive it up the road to get fixed. But I would change it as soon as possible... It won't last long if it wobbles, then you might suddenly find that it's running on 3 wheels

U can get killed if it comes undone at speed.. well its good that i have no idea what anything means. well there is a garage workshop, ive never been in there, never heard of people speaking of it, in my small area of a village. And one day i Will have to pop in there and give someone else a chance to assess it. Cause there is no way i can do it myself. I dont even know what it is? Is it a specific mini part. I mean will any old mechanic have whatever it is laying about ready to replace it with? And what cost would be normal for the part? but i know i wont be driving it at speeds in the current state of no brakes/ Would me hacking up the paddock contribute to this problem? Or is it just common wear and tear, on a part that is probably 33 years old

you can puchese them cheaper than that camel get it and take it to the mechanic and while he is doing ya bakes get him to do the ball jount to makka

tthe brake guy is a specialist brake guy, i dunno if he'd do it? cheaper? but i bet the mechs wont charge cheaper? and m sure he wont like being given the equipment>?? but always we'll see what happens
