Do any of you guys use club rego as an option? How strict is it? Is it literally just for runs with the club? I will probably use my mini once a week, if even! Just trying to think of cheaper options for rego and insurance.

Does this mean congratulations are in order on getting a blue slip,? Yes one of hhe pitfalls of the historic plates is it has to be a published event...

My car is fully registered in NSW as the historic registration here is too restrictive for how I want to use my car. The only real cost is the greenslip (it was over $650 this year).

I've got comprehensive classic vehicle insurance with NRMA (as the other cars and house are with them too) and it's under $150 a year even with a decent agreed value. They do have limited km and use on the standard policy, but if you tell them you want more km or to use it daily they can charge you a bit more.

Quote:
we will not cover your vehicle if it is
• used on a regular basis for shopping, commuting to and from work, or to transport friends and family
• driven more than 8,000km during a 12 month period, or
• used for a business purpose or for hire,
unless
• you have told us in writing beforehand about the use of your vehicle for a purpose other than a hobby or recreational purpose
• we have agreed to cover you, and
• you have paid any additional premium that applies

It really depends how you want to use your car. I've just renewed my Club Plates - $50 all up for "registration" and green slip.. and Shannons charge a lot less for fully comprehensive than they did when it had full rego...

I still get to use it for all club events, the odd blast around the block (around here we have VERY big blocks 8) - just keeping the battery charged Yer Honour... and if anything else interesting comes along (eg, a local show) you just need the Club registrar to note it in the Club "day" book....

A good deal all 'round IMHO.

Cheers, Ian

I have 4 Minis on club rego with the MCCNSW.

A great inexpensive way for me to keep multiple cars on the road.

There are plenty of events of interest listed within the club mag which means plenty of Mini use.

:D :D

No blue slip yet! Timmie that's cheap, they quoted me $350 still not bad. I might go with Shannon's though, $500 odd.

If you do go down the path of club/historic rego, take into account how often you will use it and will you use it within the guidelines of the registration.

If you fall outside of these guidelines and get caught you will not only be unregistered, you will also be uninsured (no third party). So if you have an accident you will be up for all
costs of fixing the other car as well as medical costs of all persons involved.$$$$$$$$$$$$

Not sure of the fine for unreg and uninsured in NSW but in QLD you would be up for about $700 for a 4cyl.

Just a thought.
