1973 Leyland Mini S 1100 Sedan VIN Number ********690P Can any one help solve the missing VIN numbers and letters???
Im currently trying to find my first car. I sold the car back in 2005 in a suburb around Warner QLD north of Brisbane. Its red and the original colour under the bonnet was brown. It had 13inch minilights, chrome grill and a redback spider gear stick knob if that jogs anyone memory. It was regoed in nsw when i owned it as plates NAN960 but since new owner has changed over QLD plates. Any help would be appreciated. A complete vin number would be a good start.
Can contact me by email with any info

That P on the end indicates to me that it is probably a Police issued VIN number. Car may have been stolen in the past and VIN removed.

Legend for a Police engine number (for example) N661771P = N (NSW), 66 (year issued), 1771 (number in that year), P= Fuzz.
Other states vary the 1st letter eg. V for Vic, Q for Qld.
I think the same format is used for Police issued body VIN numbers.

Ok thanks the vechle history report said it hasn't been stolen but it only shows as far back as 1996. Quite possible has been earlier.
If only the nsw RTA would release the vin they have on record..
Sounds like I've come to a dead end..

A Police engine number was issued to me on 2 occasions when I bought new short motors from BMC in the 60s. All I needed was show the receipts. Neither engine had a number when bought.
I believe Police used to issue a new `body/chassis number' (Minis made here never got a VIN, they started around 1980) in cases where the car's stamped numbers were missing/illegible and you had proof of vehicle ownership. This may no longer be the case, I have no recent info.
