Hi,

Just a question are Japanese import rovers that are complied fitted with a compliance plate? If so where are they supposed to be located?

Going to look at a car and the seller states it has been fully complied and has all the approval paperwork from the compiler but was not aware of a plate and was under the impression that the paperwork was enough.

Mine was done in QLD and has a plate in the boot which notes the compliance mods.

All the ones I have seen have the plate in the boot floor too.

Cars did come in before the plates were fitted.
My Monty complies but has no plate, it came from Victoria as a personal import from England.

Mine's in boot, should have vin same as original Rover number. Stamping is in gutter at rear of bonnet, near wipers, really hard to read without little mirror.

Cars imported into SA didn't get plates - if it helps?

A personal import should have a yellow plate, the early used imports that came in under the now defunct low-volume scheme should have a green low-volume plate, and the more recent imports should have a magenta RAWS plate.
And as far as I am aware SA is no different from any other State when it comes to complying with Commonwealth Law, so all should have the correct plate fitted.

It all depends on when the car was imported and when they started fitting the plates.

The green low-volume plates were fitted between about 1993 and 2003-4, and the car had to be 15 years old or older to be imported.

The magenta plates have been fitted from 2003, the car needs to be on the SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) register and needs to be modified and complianced by a RAW (Registered Automotive Workshop) approved to do that make and model.

The yellow import plates have been around since about 1989 and are most often the ones missing, mainly due to people selling the car off before the plate was received and fitted and the rego process not checking the car before registering it. This plate is actually fairly important as it indicates that the car was eligible for a heap of compliance concessions that the other imports don't get. So later on when it gets inspected and snagged for non-compliance issues, there is no quick indication by the presence of the Personal Import Plate that it is exempt. To the rego authorities it looks just like a dodgy import until someone tries to follow up the VIN through the Vehicle Imports section in Canberra.

Ok again thanks. The car is not complied. The paperwork is receipts proving that the required ADR changes have been made like door intrusion bars so that it can be registered as a private import but not compliance so no plate

Has it been registered in any Australian state, with paperwork to prove that showing the VIN number and previous registration number?

If you are registering it in Victoria that will be enough. You will just need an RWC like any other car. Any other state, I don't know.

Did you sight the original blue watermarked Import Approval documents issued by Canberra? If so, they will state what type of import it is.
The reason I ask is a personal import doesn't need to have a heap of compliance work done and doesn't need to have intrusion bars fitted.

yes registered in SA. No other docs sighted but I am not going to pursue this car.

Mini was imported and all compliance work was done by Steve at Brickworx ( now closed ) and does not have a plate. Transfered rego to NSW and have not had a problem with it, rego wise.
