hi fellas
was just wondering about fuel economy. i have a 998 with a 1.25 su and was wondering what you guys would expect out of it?
also wondering how much thirsty-er going up to a 1.5 su would make it?
just ballpark - i know it will depend on style and location of driving.
cheers. Dave.

Best I've managed with a 998 is about 14km/l but I have a pretty heavy right foot :)

With my 998 and a 1.25 SU I was getting an average of about 7.0L/100km.

I haven't measured a tank with the 1.5 SU yet, but once it is tuned properly it should get better economy than the 1.25. I installed a minispares "stage one kit" which has a much more efficient intake and exhaust manifold.

If tuned correctly I don't think it will make much difference.

I have a 998 with an HS4 carb (so 1.5"). I haven't measured fuel economy for a while, but it used to get about 7-7.5l/100km on my morning commute - which was part highway, part country and a small part city driving.

I wouldn't expect the HS4 to use any more fuel than the HS2 so long as it is tuned properly.

Keep in mind that some power upgrades (slightly bigger carb, better exhaust, better inlet, higher compression ratio, better ignition) will improve your fuel economy as well as power - depending on how you drive. For the same speeds they will improve fuel economy, but they will give you the option to use more fuel too!

I got a genuine 40MPG once out of my standard 1100 van years ago.

40MPG (UK) is equal to 7.1L/100km. Mine does this on most tanks.

40MPG (US) is equal to 5.88L/100km

I like the US measurement, means I use less fuel.

The US cars also had a 6.5 gallon tank, as opposed to the 5.5 gallon tank in the UK models
