Post subject: | RH Fuel tank |
Considering I am doing a Vtec conversion I thought it would be a good idea to add a RH fuel tank. My now supercharged mini chews through the petrol and in-turn see me in the fuel station way too often. How do people find the fuel economy of the Honda Vtec? Does anyone have a RH fuel tank they would like to off load? I am in Melbourne so easier if local but open to any offers. |

I'm interested in this too - I'm starting on an engine conversion, and while I don't expect to be using more fuel, a longer range is always nice. I'm also still not sure why there needs to be a 2nd filler cap - can somebody please educate me? Surely fuel can run from one tank to another? Regarding fuel economy of a vtec, a b-series civic is supposed to get around 7.5l/100km. You will use a little less because it's a lighter car, but then you will also probably use more because of the gear ratios, so that's probably about right. |

How would you do the fuel pump fitment, just in one tank and other draining into it? twin pumps? Single pump and 2 bigger outlets? Just curious. How about extending the single tank. |

It seems strange they would use a small single line and an extra filler cap. |

It seems strange they would use a small single line and an extra filler cap. That would mean manufacturing a new component with (unnecessary) extra cost. You'd have a normal LH tank with usual small hose outlet to engine, and new LH tank with large pipe to RH tank. It was much simpler engineering wise and cheaper to just do what they did and utilise the standard LH tank across the whole range of Mini sedans, whether they had a RH tank or not. Of course changes were eventually needed to the LH tank when emission control measures became important. |

wouldn't it be best to use rover tank with pump or modify an LS1275 tank to say 1/2" outlet fitted in sender unit. |

Or is the pipe connecting the two tanks 'forked' to connect both, before heading towards the engine? |

That clears that up then ![]() I remember a while ago there was somebody selling plastic RH fuel tanks for a mini on ebay. They were brand new, and about $350 I think. They don't seem to be there anymore, and most others I can find are quite expensive. Maybe that's why everybody doing a conversion seem to go for a fuel cell? |

Paul Gulson developed the plastic RH tank and sold them on eBay but I seem to remember he doesn't sell them now. Was it Matt Read who took it over? Suggest you give him a call. |

If I go ahead I would have a second tank on the right side with filler for faster filling and an equalising hose down the bottom. Fuel pump would remain in the LH tank as per normal. I have a rover tank with SPI pump so would keep this if the pump was strong enough. The idea of having a larger equalising hose and no filler sounds good too as it would mean no extra holes in the body? I don't think I want a plastic tank though. I would want a matching RH in metal one. |

just some thought I too have a vtec conversion. Dual tank. SPI LHS tank with a walbro in tank fuel pump. This runs as per original SPI setup...line to regulator then return on standard Carby return line. The RHS tank runs a lower bung to the other side - and that's it. Both are vented tanks , so will gradually even out over time. |

Post subject: | Re: RH Fuel tank |
Spi pump wont be upto the job for a vtec- it only has to feed 1 injector, not 4. I did the walbro pump in the stock tank too. The other thing to consider is not running a mini tank at all and fitting say a 50 litre alloy tank in thr boot? |
