There is hardly a week goes by without another ad appearing on one of the online selling forums for a Cooper or Cooper S which is not it is made out to be. Todays example which is "one owner for the last 30 years" does not have the correct build plate relying on a Victorian police number and fitted with a no standard engine, 12Ya/Ta/H but according to the ad is "rare and original". The ad on Ebay is http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Morris-Mini- ... 3cf8ee2502 People need to be made aware of such cars for the asking price is not warrented by the actual description. We should have on this forum a list of the fakes advertised such that people can refer to the same if contemplating a purchase. Comments please |

It must be a genuine Cooper S, it says so on the bonnet badge. |

I wouldn't be too quick to discount it based on someone's description. The seller may have little or no idea of what key info to place on the ad. The 'owners description' does not determine whether or not its a genuine Cooper S, the car does. As for 'original' there aren't many with the original Aquajets that they left Zetland with, so its always a relative term. Cant quite read the Berger sticker but the fact its still there may mean the bay hasn't been repainted. If it says Camino Gold and the seller has written 'mustard' then this may give you a hint to the sellers knowledge of minis. Again not reflective of it being a genuine S or not? Just my 2 bob. |

My 2c worth.... I purchased a aquajet recently to put on my car, however it was discovered as 10yo old NOS...decided not safe. Not an indicator of authenticity these days |

Don't be too quick to judge originality based on bonnet fitment - my 2 minis have original bonnets that only "fit where they touch". Panel alignment wasn't up to modern standards -especially on an el cheapo car. |

Whose likely to get ripped off here? Any collector with half a brain (and lets face it the average Aussie doesn't have 25K to spend on a toy) will have it checked out be a reputable mini specialist, who will point them in the right direction. They're not selling a second hand Camry. Further, the seller would have to be completely unscrupulous or brain dead to try to sell a Std mini as a Cooper S, not just due to legal ramifications but also due to the fact that the inter-connectivity of the world these days ensures any person can check the authenticity of a car easily. Type in this "cooper s authenticity" Fourth result - https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sourcei ... thenticity This will at least give the average punter some guidelines, and if they're parting with 25K they will go further I'm sure. I'm not saying it's right to sell ringers with false descriptions but you would have to be truly naive to get caught by a fake, all you have to do is drop a line on this free forum and the seed of doubt will be planted, or cast asunder. |

A diagram showing how to adjust the door for fitment using a piece of wood. Panel fitment on the Mini was never precise. http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... st-a-door/ |

What and ruin the witch hunt? ![]() The number on the rego is a Victorian re-issued number. (Police Number) I don't know what is stamped on the metal or if there is a Compliance Plate. |
