Post subject:  Weber gaskets info please
I am about to fit a 40 dcoe, have never played with webers before so not sure what gaskets I will require. The carb has been rebuilt and is going onto a short neck redline manifold so I dont have to make body mods to the countryman.

Do I need a soft mount gasket kit? What does a soft mount kit do? Will also be using a ramflo air filter are any other gaskets required for that end of the carby?

The idea of a soft mount is to isolate the "instrument" for engine vibration which could disrupt flow by causing cavitation (or some such :-)

Soft mount kit goes between webber and manifold and yes gasket between webber and ramflo.

Be careful which Ramflo you get. I bought the larger one and it didn't fit, so I had to send it back for the smaller one (on a 45 though).

Didn't fit, as in was too big and wouldn't fit between webber and firewall. Small one was still tight but fit just.

OK sweet, no good will come of cavitation then im guessing.

The ramflow was already fitted and appears to have been munted to make it fit correctly. Will also look at the foamy sock type jobs which I guess would be better performance wise.

Yes, but socks fit over trumpets which are generally far longer than the offset Ramflo filter.

Also hoping someone has a pic of their linkage set up on the car, I have a linkage kit on another one but not sure if everything is there.

Yes you'll need the soft mount kit. This seals the weber to the inlet manifold via the o-rings within the soft mount kit.

The first gasket you posted goes between the air filter and the carb. Of the many Webers I have seen, not many run this. It is, however, 'good practice' to run one. Grab one.

You won't need the second gasket you posted.

I have run a Dellorto 45DHLA (Weber copy, basically) for 20 years, with the standard gaskets. I have never had a problem, even at 8300rpm around Wakefield Park.
When bought, it had a soft mount kit. Its only feature was fuel leaks, IMO. I binned it.
Most of them I've seen get overtightened by people, then you may as well just use a gasket.

Maybe Weber DCOEs need them on a road car, I reckon it's just folklore.

[edit] I once owned a Fiat 124 sedan. 1200cc. It had a 38DCOE Weber. and used a gasket... :)

Here is my set up on the van someone has put a webber box in it at some stage but it doesn't need it with the short manifold
