Hi I'm new here. I'm Irish but been here 7 years and a citizen now. I had my first mini at 18, a 1979 inca yellow 998cc Leyland round nose. For various reasons I sold it and always regretted it. At age 26 I needed one again. I bought another 1979, same colour same make, everything. This one got stripped to the shell and fully rebuilt, new sub frames, adjustable suspension, neg camber, adj tie rods, 10 inch disc brakes on front etc etc. it was nearly finished and then I decided to come to Australiia. Now 7 years later and 36 years old I've just been reunited with it again. I got it shipped over in a container. Now just the process of registering it here. And also remembering what I need to finish on it, and what has been damaged in the last 7 years!
Up for helping anyone with there car to gain experience again and also keen for help with mine. Based in oatley area of Sydney.
Hopefully get to meet some of you guys.
And thanks for all the help so far. I will be asking a lot of questions,,

Yeah, one of the more difficult states of Oz I have ever dealt with for anything to do with registration and licensing. I was just curious who you might be working with.

Is there a broker or something I need?

Someone who is certified to engineer and comply minis to the local registration requirements. Someone for example like these guys : http://www.ozcooper.com.au/

We have a protected market, and push personal imports through a local compliance process before allowing registration to happen. It can be a little painful.

The rules are easier if you bring your own car from overseas.

It is my own car, I've owned it for 10 years, does that make a difference?

I've split this off from the intro thread. It stands on its own two feet as a topic.

Thanks mick

For that option it had to be in the first 6 months of me being here. It's been 7 years!

And it still needs to be compliant.
I met a compliance guy today. Says because it's 1979 it needs rear seat belts, child restrain anchor points, none of which I have r needed in it. And also side impact bars in the doors!
Seems extreme to me. And it's $600 just for him to asses it and make recommendations and the. Pass it after I've done the work!

Wow

The ozcooper guys can probably get it all done as a package far cheaper than you working out each bit along the way...

Me too, I thought if it was pre 89 it didn't matter.
