Searching the forum for something I thought I saw a while back. Barney, since installing the weber has a little bit of black to blue smoke at idle and under full noise gives of a bit of a plume. Was there some suggestion that rocker clearances can contribute to this or am I looking at glazing slash ring issues? I know I asked a similar question a while back about white smoke but I think this is oil related. |

what does your oil smell like? pull the dipstick out and have a good smell. I bet it smells like petrol |

No Doc. I suspect you are right. I have a mate with a dunno send A meter. Would this create damage or can I dial back the mixture and save the day. Thinking back to pre Rylstone when the weber went on I visited my mate and his dyno was down and we used the AF meter to check mixture but not under load. He did seem to think smoke was hinting at being oil. It was massively rich when I got there and he jetted it right back. |

If you wanna come for a drive, I have a portable A/F meter. But I have no Weber jets, only Dellorto ones. But during testing we could stop by GR and grab some...  If you continue to run it rich, you will wear the bores out faster.  My car still hauls ass but gives pretty good economy since I rejetted it. |

Just sent a text to my mate to see if his rig is up and running. So will dialing it back in fix the smoke or have I done damage. It was August last year it went on. But I don't push the be jesus out of it. I'd be luck to rev to 5.5. |

Well if the smoke is partly due to excess fuel, proper jetting will fix that. No telling how good the bores still are, but you've not done many miles since rebuild. I'd rejet it then go climb a few good hills in 4th gear. Rings can take a while to bed in properly, it depends on the hone job. |

It does smell fuelly. I thought that this was just how weber were. I had a suspicion this might be the case is its almost like dumping fuel out the exhaust under heavy load. |

Fix the mixture, change the oil + filter and go from there. My oil doesn't smell of fuel. I've done about 14,000 miles since rebuild in 2007. |

A simple way of checking as to what your carby is up to is to take a plug socket with you in the car , take the car for a run somewhere , give it a bit mumbo , park it , shut it down straight away and check what the plugs look like , you will soon get an idea of how much fuel it's getting . You can check your plugs after any driving conditions , you can then read your plugs . |
