Hi guys is I need to fit the aftermarket engine steady to the thermostat housing side of my 69 Cooper S.Is it a straight forward job? does anybody have a pic of one fitted? Any help on engine steady appreciated.
Cheers

Very easy, apart from needing to do up the nuts beneath the dash and a few extra gaskets.
You can also get the steadies for below the engine as well. More a problem with rod change than your remote change Mk2 Cooper S.

Is your driver's side mount broken?

Hi kath20 , are you asking if you need the thermostat engine steady , or you want to fit a thermostat engine steady ?

Should not need one on a Cooper S with remote shift. My car doesn't need it, and it has ~125HP at the crank.
Factory never fitted the rad end steadies to Minis until they brought in the unlocated (and inferior, IMO) rodchange box.

As the resto goes on I was wanting to know if it was necessary to install an extra steady or not,but it looks like it is not needed on a Cooper s,is that the case.

I'd say so as it would be a rod change gearbox.

1275LS had one, yes. Cooper S and Clubman GT did not, as they both had a remote box, which has an extra mount back in the tunnel.
That resists the engine's torque reaction, so there's no need for the extra engine steady.
So if keeping it original I'd not fit one.

DSN Classics (UK) make a range of beautiful billet alloy, adjustable engine steadies for Minis. http://www.dsnclassics.co.uk
