Terrific little Mini segment tonight by Paul Murton...  Lachlan Macquarie fifth and last autocratic Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821. Macquarie was buried on the Isle of Mull in a remote mausoleum with his wife and son. His grave in Mull is maintained by the National Trust of Australia and is inscribed "The Father of Australia". I spent a couple of weeks staying in a crofters cottage on the Isle of Mull back in 1991. It's truly a beautiful place. Seeing this program last night has prompted me to try and organise a return trip with the kids sometime? Davo |

Mull is a truly beautiful place, but I am biased. my family came from there in 1859, I have been twice. The bus ride from Craignure to Tobermory in a double decker on one lane roads is fun  when we where there in 2013 we run into a lady from the states who was doing family research on her family, the Macquaries. |
