Post subject: | Leaking fuel pump |
Hi all, I've got a mechanical pump in my leyland (see pic) which is leaking. ![]() After a few days it has a dried puddle beneath it. It's output is also poor as I have a fuel filter with a sight glass which doesn't have as much in it as it used to and it runs like cr*p! I haven't seen one of these pumps before. The engine was rebuilt around 20 years ago. Are there any serviceable parts or is it best to changeover. Is the new pump quality any good vs rebuilding old (if possible). Anyone had/seen this type of pump? Anyone had issues with pumps leaking externally? Any thoughts? Thanks all. |

That is an Australian made Goss pump, fitted to most Australian Minis from 65 to 75. You can buy rebuild kits for them. They can leak from the diaphragm if the five outer screws come loose or if the diaphragm just gets too old. They can also leak from the gasket under the lid held by the single screw. I would rebuild it. Most people will replace them with an electric pump. |

As Morris1100 says, fairly easy to fix if you are so inclined. |

Thankyou. I think the rebuild is the winner. I was scared off when I saw this: http://classiccarbs.com.au/Classic-Fuel ... 900.631RK- Then found this and was relieved: http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... fuel-pump/ |

Part number for the kit is 631VC. Good parts shops (Auto1, Autopro, etc.) can get them from Goss. |

Hi jubblies how'd you go with that rebuild. I have the same issue got a goss g600e pump which I think you have too and I measures the old cap gasket to be around 45 mm OD. Had you any luck getting the correct diameter rubberised cork gasket diameter? |

Hi watsupskip. Long story, not. It stopped leaking! The gasket must have been dry but now it seems ok. I've got a replacement unit to go straight in if it fails again. To keep the car on the road I'll swap it over and rebuild at my leisure (if required?!) |
