Post subject:  new floor panels

I have just looked at a round nose shell that has had some floor panels welded in, and a left front floor panel still to be welded in. In the photo below, taken from under the shell you can see a gap between the front and rear floor panels, which is directly under the inside seat mount panel. Is this gap normally filled in with another panel, or are the panels wrong????

Thanks

Normally the floor pans are one piece from front to rear but most of the floor pan sections stop at the seat cross member hence the gap

I think you'll find most of the half floors, disregarding the one with the channel for the hydro pipes, are actually repair sections not replacement panels. Usually from magnum.

They are designed to fit over the top of the rusty areas, the flange butts up against the crossmember. We know this because the rear half has a cut out to fit around the companion bin. A proper bodge, but these are companies that "recommission' cars rather than restoring them.

Not unlike the a panels that have a flange to fit over the top of the existing a panel.

A proper job would be to find replacement floor halves (not repair sections) or fit full floors.

If it's the same car in the photobucket album it looks to be a 998 cooper. Worth saving.

Maybe look for Heritage panels? And as others have suggested replace the whole floor and not just each seperate area?

No, it's not the cooper. It's an unfinished deluxe project, in pieces. It sounds like a dodgy repair that going to take a lot of fixing. I'll keep looking.

Thanks
