Power out of your car? You mean your alternator can't handle it? Simple - new alternator. You can get a 70 amp alternator for around $160 or so. |

we have determined its either the alternator, the battery or its a shitty amp my mate gave me |

So what's happening? Is the amp cutting out? If the battery can start the car, it can handle an amp. You shouldn't need a large battery for a sound system, unless you're listening to it with the engine off. But you will need a decent alternator. You will need your alternator to provide about 25A (to run the car and lights) + the current drawn from your sound system as a base level. Do you have a mulitmeter? Check the voltage going into the amp. If the voltage is dropping too low, you either need better wiring or a better alternator. Unless it's a huge amp and tiny battery, that shouldn't be an issue. |

Ive got two 4ch Amps, two 12in Subs, four 7x10's and a pair of 6in speakers. I dont have any issues with power supply. |

The amp isnt cutting out, its just not putting enough power to the speakers. When i connect the sub it just pops. Im really leaning towards it being an amp issue |

Years ago I ran a pair of good 6.5" splits with the woofers under the rear seat and the tweeters on the top dash rail pointed at the opposite head rest. I ran a 12" sub in the boot. Ran it all of a 4x 100wrms amp. No worries off a good working standard late Clubman alternator. These days if I were doing it I wouldn't bother with the sub, but do the same thing a pair of splits. I was a P plater and it NEEDED a sub. |

Does anyone listen to anything else other than the captivating sounds of induction, exhaust and transmission? |

If you hear a scratching sound out of the subs... then it could be that the coils in the subs have blown. Also check the fuses on the head unit and the amp. Also check if you need to enable the subwoofer output on your head unit. It might just not be outputting anything. |

Where are you putting the subs? If they are in the boot , check if the boot is sealed, as mine was. It will need a hole. If they are in the cabin and you have the standard alternator, then do what Irish Yobbo said and get a bigger alternator. 70 amps should be plenty. Mine is a 120 amp, but I am changing from one big amp to two bigger amps, but that is just my insanity. Mark |

I have a factory fitted "Sounds by Alec" system in mine. It sounds pretty good to me. Tim |

If you're still having issues, it might be worth connecting the amp straight to the battery (but use a fused line). It sounds like the amp is rubbish, but it could still be the wiring. If, for example, you have a 250WRMS amp, you'll need about 20 amps. If your wiring is just 0.1 ohms, that's a 2V voltage drop - probably enough to cut out an amp. So check that all your wiring and connectors are in good order, and that the voltage at the amp - not just at the battery - is sufficient. |
