Post subject: | Smiths Gauge Sender ? |
I have just bought a secondhand Smiths Electric Temp gauge for my Deluxe. Are all the gauges the same and you just buy a Smiths Sender ? It would be logical if they did but I would assume you would have to get a matching type. Can anyone point me to some Data on the subject ? Thanks Stewart. |

In my experience some different smiths temp gauges have different senders. It is possible all the original Mini ones are the same, not 100% sure. |

There's two part numbers in Australian minis, an early and a later number. The early number was for use without a 10 volt voltage stabiliser (pre-64) and a later type to 79. The 10 volt stabiliser allowed for the voltage dips you get with car voltage supplies, and prevents the gauge dipping as the voltage varies (headlights on, old generators etc.). Pre -64 GRT102 - 40-120 Ohms - (Without Stabiliser) Post 64 GTR104 - 10-180 Ohms |

Thanks for that Mick. Excellent data, I did not find anything like that in my searching. As I am not sure what gauge I have I will set it up and use my resistance wheel to check that it is working ok and that the sender is suitable. |
