Hi Guys, on the hunt for a morris mini k bonnet badge... they seem quite rare, does anyone know where i can get them? struggling to find anything online. I have one that is cracked, and the rubber underneath has no colour/is torn... so i guess alternatively does anyone know where i could take mine in and get it replicated/coloured/fixed? I'm in the melbourne area. Cheers, Evan This badge: |

Originals are NLA and the aftermarket ones that Somerford Minis UK sold are no more. ![]() I needed one too, rather than fit the wrong one I've gone naked bonnet. ![]() [edit] typo |

Casting a new badge isn't a problem but getting the colours and metalised finish is the hard part. |

These were arguably the least durable of all the Oz Mini badges. They crazed and faded like buggery in the Aussie sun. |

They were featured on matics and mk2 cars in the UK. They faded and crazed there too! |

If you're happy with that finish then yeah, they're not that hard to reproduce. The on the original ones the raised plaque surround was metalised from behind to give you that chrome finish that you see from through the plastic. If you were to do this with paint it looks like paint:) if you chrome it (which is possible with plastics these days) you would only see the conductive base coat they use to apply the chrome. The only way I know of to get a perfect replica would be through metallisation. Paint the coloured parts (the ox, the ford and the silver) then metallise the chrome plaque, then protect from oxidisation with epoxy primer and then more silver over that. This is how I believe it was done however they may have skipped the sealer primer and gone straight to silver to seal the back. |

http://www.bmcfarina.com/contents/en-uk/p5.html This is for a Morris Oxford but is a decent replacement for the k badge. Just have to check and Mage sure it will fit your bezel. |

Maybe try for a good used one. Link Automotive in Mitcham (03 9873 3874) or Blair Athol Automotive in Adelaide (08 8262 4663) or any of the other places with SH stock. |

I'm going to have a crack at re-casting these in polyurethane and repainting them. I have no idea how long they will last though. At least as long as the originals is my hope. |
