This is a website that brings in Japanese cars and gives a breakdown of costs on the right hand side, so might help.

Import Costs and taxes and compliance I can't see being any different, shipping costs probably will be, assuming the car you're interested in is from the UK?

Might help, otherwise talk to those who have done it from the UK/Europe.... "mickmini"

I imported a Lexus IS200 from UK in 2010 and with all costs inc ADR inspection and transport costs it was about $5k. That was a RORO boat from Southampton to Brisbane. Don't know why your estimate is so high! Used a company in Sydney called Cargo-online. They were excellent.

I believe these guys http://www.ozcooper.com.au/ are the ONLY people in Australia certified to comply a post-1995 Mini.

Yes, I think you are correct. However, maybe I misread the original question - AJ when you say 2001 Cooper Sport 500, are you referring to one of the last 500 built Classic Minis? This would actually be a 2000 model and would need to go through OZ Mini Cooper.

I was involved in the compliance and registration of imports for number of yeara and just had a look at the OZCooper website... and have to say that they have the most honest, correct and complete details of the import scheme, what is involved and how to go about it, as well as what can and can't be done that I have ever seen.

All the info you need to read is on these three pages:

http://www.ozcooper.com.au/FAQ.htm
http://www.ozcooper.com.au/latest_news.htm
http://staging.ozcooper.com.au/Untitled_1.htm

Hi Aj,

I'm in the process of importing a mini with OZ Cooper (98 rover, which I'm already dreaming about modifying, it's my first mini so I'm keen to drive it stock for a while, maybe) They had a contact in Japan, Aaron at Bulldog Bros who was able to source it for me.

Both Bulldog Bros and Oz Cooper have been very easy to deal with and seem pretty transparent with their dealings.

Importing it from Japan looks like it might be a few k cheaper than what you quoted to get it on the road in Sydney, WA might be more. Don't know how much the actual 500 might be.

That said I haven't taken delivery of the car yet, so the proof will be in the pudding, and the absolute final figures haven't been discussed.
