Hi guys,

I've got a 1970 Leyland Mini Clubman and I need to find an exterior door handle as mine somehow fell off, but I have looked at heaps of English and some Aus sites and can't find one. I saw one on eBay but it was rusted and in poor condition. Is this part normally so hard to find? I will go with the eBay one if nothing else is available. Do you have any info that could help?

Thanks!

Stefano

They were only fitted to late Australian cars, so you won't find any in the UK

Remember that they are handed (left & right) and it's always the driver's side that wears out where the pull rod goes into the hole in the tab under the handle.
Then people just try pulling up harder and snap them off.

Hi, hope you don't mind me digging up an old post. I'm looking at purchasing a 1978 leyland mini and the driver's side door handle is "floppy". The owner said something about a pin snapping inside so I wanted to find out whether I can realistically fix the issue without spending more than a couple of hundred dollars. I'm wondering if it is the pull rod as you've described and if so whether that's a part I can easily find?

Appreciate any suggested contacts or links. Great forum by the way!

Cheers,
Bas

If the handle has gone floppy, then I'm afraid it's at the stage where one of the hinge pins has been snapped off and it's time to fit a new handle. One of the suppliers mentioned above should be able to help.

Sometimes you can replace the pins that the flap hinges on. I've had the pins slide out but stay trapped in there. I've also seen them with the socket that the pins press into all broken, in which case there's not much you can do. Its one of those horrible soft diecast alloys that are very hard to repair.
