Post subject: | Rear flipper window opening |
Hi guys, my rear flipper window on the passengers side works it self loose and opens up with driving on not so smooth roads. Is there an adjustment I can make to stiffen the locking down action. I know my window rubbers are worn somewhat, but wedging a small piece of foam between the glass and rubber did not seem to increase the tightening down effect of the rear lever lock. Should I put some washers under the chrome locking mechanism to build it out a little to help the lever lock down better. Any suggestions welcomed. cheers |

The best way is to replace the rubbers but as you said, spacing the catch in will help. Try some thin plastic, like ice cream container lid, cut out little squares same shape as catch base and punch some holes in it. Bit less likely to damage trim than washers. Most rubber suppliers, Clark Rubber etc, have the pinchweld seals. They're like door ones but smaller in section. |

I had a similar problem with the hopper window opening - the 2 screws holding the catch to the body were lose and slightly stripped, stopping the clamp action of the catch from working properly. Used larger screws. |

Many thanks for the responses. I did think my screws were a little bit loose, but thought they tightened up fairly well, so will recheck them again. Were your longer screws of a particular thread or did you have to use self tapping? Good tip about the thin plastic cut outs, may have to give that a go. I was hoping to leave the rubbers until I go down the full re spray path a bit later. Would new rubbers come out easy enough and go back in, if I was spray painting in a year or two? cheers |

New rubbers come out & go back easy, I did that when I repainted mine 3 or 4 years ago. |

Old thread but relevant. I bought some new rubbers for the rear side flipper windows, the rubber pulled out and was easy to put the new one back in. However, when you try to close the window to re-attach the latch screws, the window rubber near the hinge must be too thick. The force required to close the window seems excessive. I'm sure with force it will close, but I'm not confident things are right. Should I undo the hinge and see if there is any available movement outwards, to make the closing action easier? Mat |

This is normal for the new aftermarket rubbers, there is a better fitting one available but for the life of me I can't remember who sells it! |

I bought it from MiniKingdom. Minisport sell 2 types, one is listed for earlier cars? Maybe this is the better one? |
