the mini k was the mk 2 model of the round nose minis. The mini k, which stood for kangaroo being an Australian only model, had an all syncro gearbox with a 1098cc motor with an 1 1/4 carburetor. it had a three clock binnicle like the mk 2 s with an oil pressure guage and temperature guage. The speedo was different than a cooper s thouigh. the interior was the same. they had a sticker of the kangaroo that you see on aussie war planes etc on the A panels. the bonnet badge was round and displayed a bull as used on the mini matics. the boot badge said morris mini 1100. they continued till 1971 which few were released with clubman type doors as are some mk 2 cooper s. |

Thanks Carter, I almost bought a 69 model car a few months ago (which unfortunately fell through) which had the rear badging Morris Mini 1100 and the 3 clock binnacle as you mention... I guess this could have been a Mini K?? I've only ever seen them as an Morris Mini 1100, I cant say I've ever seen the roo sticker on the A panel I guess it wouldn't last over the years. So there's no "K" badge as such? |

No all strictly true. The K was a marketing exercise to produce and promote a car locally that had more than 84% (I think) local content. They were the first minis anywhere to be fitted with the 1098cc engine. The front badge for the K is unique, mk2 badges in the UK are similar, so is the Oxford badge, but not the same. I believe the badge was also fitted to some matics. The k is basically a deluxe, you can call it a mk2 but it didn't receive any of the English body changes. http://bmcexperience.com.au/issue-18/mini-k.html They had stickers on the a panel (which are being reproduced) no one does the front though. |
