I am just about ready to fire up my engine.

I had the camshaft repolished (it didn't need regrinding) by GR and new cam followers fitted.

What process do you guys use to bed in a new camshaft and followers

Its been a while since I have done a new engine.

I have searched the web and understand about flat tappets ZZP etc.

I was going to run the engine at 2000 rpm for 20 minutes once I had set up the timing etc.

Camshaft is a RE13 if that helps.

What is the best process

Thanks

NO! That's bad advice these days. All that does in neutral is glaze the rings and bores up. It needs to run under load.
Set the valves, get it timed so it starts & runs, and go for a 15 minute drive. Keep revs below 3000 but make it work a bit. Don't let it idle below 1200 or so.

[edit] I'm assuming new engine build here...

This engine had less than 5k on it when the fire happened. It got water in it and had water damage on the bore and cam etc.

It only need a polish up. But i fitted new rings bore honed etc. So its a new engine.

yeah, then what Dr Mini said - running in the engine is more important than running in the cam... if you do the 20 mins at 2000rpm thing will give you all sorts of pain

I think i picked up a slight glaze by being TOO gentle. Everything I've seen agrees with Doc. Running in under load, increasing the rev range by 500 rpm with each steady blat at quarter, half and then three quarter throttle. Eg. 3 runs at 2k then 2.5k then 3k etc. About right doc?

Don't be afraid to use some throttle, more is better than less.
I would just drive it normal for 15 mins, but keep under 3000 and don't idle below 1200 as I said before.
No need for steady rpm.

I take mine for a drive to Beechworth - takes about 30 minutes and there are lots of really long hills to load it up
