They changed the style of the Compliance plates that month and listed the model (Mini S) on them instead of just Mini and a code.
The X in the car number was also introduced, it replaced the D in the previous series.
The really big change that month was the introduction of ADR27a which was the strict emission controls including the dreaded air pump.

The body change around that time was the deletion of the spit holes in the bulkheads. It may have two holes, one hole or no holes.

This is an interesting build plate and the second I have seen in this series with the same mistake.

From May 75 to April 77 the body prefix for Leyland Mini S was 022D2S1M09 which was replaced with 022X2S1M09 and run from April 77 to March 78.

Your plate is clearly dated July 76 which means it should have been 022D2S1M09 but alas was stamped 021X2S1M09 as was 20770.

Just another one of those BMC/Leyland stuff ups that occurred.
