So where do people in Sydney get there buffing pads from? I have been advised that wool is the best. I have also been advised that foam is better....??? I am prob going to go wool. Foam just doesnt seem right to me 
Also was advised the best rubbing compund for the first buff is stuff called **** in a little tubefrom repco. But my main qstn is about the buffing pads. where from. does quality vary or is a buffing pad a buffing pad |

Dude, buy $2 maguirs foam pads from supercheap. When they get crappy throw them out. You don't want to reuse an worn pad... Just buff it out using your mum's best winter pajamas 
Works for me, then again I have ultra hard 2 Pack... |

yeah when buffing a normaal car i use microfibre cloths and sh!t but cos the car needs its first buff it needs to be buffed by machine to heat the paint uup to get it shiny. so this time round mums pjays just wont cut it

or is a buffing pad a buffing pad YES!! I bought a wool pad from my usual paint/panel supplier and it was good. I then dug out an old one from the same supplier (about 10 years old, but harldy used) and it was AMAZING! Thick wool pads are what you want....none of this thin and whispy stuff... A mate of mine is a panel beater and he only uses foam pads..... At the end of the day it's what works best for you. My local repco have foam pads, and the attachments for your buffer....but thay aint cheap. The foam was $45 alone!!! 
I use 'buffing compound' in a tin. It's water based and green in colour. You water it down and apply by hand (with a Meguaries foam hand applicator) and machine buff off
I will redo mine in a week or so.

ok so where do i get these thick ones from? I have a thing about using foam. it just doesnt seem right.... Anton try this **** stuff for the buff if you do it again. My panel beating mate used to be one of the best, (amazing quality work) and he uses this stuff all the time and wont use anything else. he reckons its the best. |

you just get it from an auto supplier in a little tube. a little goes a long way. relatively cheap too. but the BEST. i am going to go buy some today, Where are panel beater suppliers? |

just got everything. GREAT place on queens rd fivedock peps. they have EVERYTHING and full of advice, They steered me away from freckler as it is more of a compound for tpac (my friend must have assumed thats what i was using) and am using some green stuff so prob the same as you anton. plus the good wool buffer and 1500. yay cut back time have a nice day |

i have been using foam pads now everyday for 5 years and they are great. I used the wool pads at the start but was leaving swirl marks no matter what compound was used... If your doing your van id say get some meguairs level 4 (medium-hard) cutting compound in it. With a very soft (black waffle pad) on a pretty high speed buffer. Then wash it and go over with a nice hand polish (mothers is fine) then finish with a llight coat of wax. Should of gave me a call, all the bits and pieces you need will cost a bit, i do mini exteriors for $50 (ausmini members only)

i might give you a call for the Van brad. that is in need of some TLC!! This buffing stuff is for Elmo.. So you reckon go 2000 after the 1500, why is that Anton? wont the buffing get everything out? or is 1500 too coarse? Most pep have been telling me 1500 then buff/?? |

Hey brad i will get you over to do the van and the pt once i finish the van and it stops raining. Probably in 2-3 weeks. Do two cars at once and saves you the hassle of going from one to the next.
