Hi

Does any one have a copy of this service manual

Image

My brake booster will note release pressure and locks the brakes on (all four) and i am stumped to figure out why.

I have had it resleeved and new seals etc. I assembled it and was careful putting back together (so I thought)

I am little stuck. so before I give up and send it off to be looked at I want to at least try and figure out whats wrong. I have built a few of these over the years with out any hassles.

Every other brake part is new and its definantly holding presssure at the booster not the master cylinder.

Thanks in advance

Bernard

If it's any help I have the complete disassembly and assembly instructions for the PBR VH44 booster in my Ford XR Falcon factory workshop manual. I can scan and email to you if you need it. (14 pages in total).

I'm interested in finding out what the problem was, any progress?

My car with disk brakes and vh44 booster, has just started doing the same thing, sometimes locking all 4 wheels up, fortunately not at speed or in traffic. I've fixed the problem for now, by disconnecting (and blocking off) the vacuum hose so that i have unboosted brakes, everything is working fine, just greater leg effort to stop.

I have had the booster a part and not back on the car as yet.

I have up loaded in the How Too section a very good breakdown on how it all works which has been very helpful. Search for Vh44

Your problem looks like its on the vacum side. I would take off the large C retainer on the bottom of the breather and check the poppet is not jambed.

The other you could check easily is the return valve that goes on the manifold and into the booster body. They can also jamb

Please keep me posted on what you find.

I plan to do write up on a fault finding guide once I get mine sorted

I bit the bullet or should I say my cheque book has and sent it too a brake place to be repaired.

The guy called me today as I asked to find out what the problem was.

In a nut shell the new diaphram (new old stock) which I have had for sometime is 3mm bigger overall and was jambing holding the piston on.

He did say it took him a while to figure out what the issue was and it wasnt until he took off the large dome whilst under pressure that it released and measured up a new diaphram to compare (I could not have done this on the car easily).

So one step closer.

Kiwiinwgtn - I dug out my copy of the PBR VH44 Service Manual and note that it's virtually the same as the Ford one. Most of the diagrams have been copied as is but some of the text is different. It's 26 pages. Do you still want copy?

The Mini Comprehensive Workshop Manual, dark blue edition TP832, has a section on the PBR VH44JA.
This is in SECTION m BRAKING SYSTEM.
There are 8 pages labelled m-1 to m-8.
It covers dismantling, inspection and re-assembly of the VH44JA booster.

Hope this helps

No. All the servo does is decrease pedal effort.
