Post subject:  interior boot light

so i tried to install a boot light, i bought a couple of those cheap lights what have a plastic circular frame, and you press the actual globe, its like a big button.

well, they dont work anymore and had a tendency to turn themselves on. so they were cheap and nasty, dont do it. OH, i mounted them with double sided tape. that worked REALLY WELL

so today at work i saw this fluoro light you can get, which operates on 12V. i was thinking of buying one of them, but how would i mount it? some kind of bracket maybe, but how would i mount that??? i dont want to weld as i dont know nayone with a welder and if i did its a tricky, twisty job.

and i would wire it up with a positive wire and just find an earth point yeah/ cant that just be stuck to the body? or do i have to get a special negative earth light????

I just walked into supercrap, went to the rice section and bought an 8" neon light, cut off
the cigerette lighter plug, and screwed it into the top of the boot with 2 small self tappers.
Took 10 seconds. You can then either get a flick type switch to find when you need,
or go down the local wreckers or whatever, get a door switch (usually have a rubber boot attached) and put that in the boot.
Most DC lights arent polarity fussy, except LEDs. Power for the light can then either
come from the battery, or from an interior lighting fuse up the front maybe.

wired parallel to the interior light perhaps? then it would need its own switch. if i wired in the same circuit so it turned on with the interior light it would make them both pretty dim wouldnt it

High intensity LED's would be unobtrusive and bright enough. Not a bad idea there Harley.

Running a wire back up to the front of the car is ALOT of work. I would just run it from the battery, an put an inline fuse holder in. The idea of a boot light is kinda cool. I have one already though. I open the drivers door and it comes on. Gotta love a van! It would be nice to have the intrior light come on when you open the back door's on the van, hmmmmm. Will have to think about that.

Cheers

Aaron

It will only dim if wired in series.
Direct to the battery is the easiest way, I sent my wiring to the front to keep
all fuses next to/ near each other. Wasn't hard, just went over the headlining.
