As the proud owner of a Moulton Smootha Ride suspension kit, do I really need to remove the fuel tank.
Is it possible to remove the clamp and swivell/lean the tank enough to access the top of the shock to save draining it and removing it completely.

I'm sure I have done that in the past Phil, just make sure you don't have a full tank, as you know you have to take of the filler cap to slide the neck back through the rubber neck grommet. Then once the neck is in the boot just pivot the tank around the fuel pipe enough to get access to the top of the shock!

Mind you this is digging up 25 year old memories!

I presumed that this might be possible, but thought I'd check with the more experienced ones that have been through this process before.
I spent hours trying to remove a mini radiator once and then searched on here and had it out in mere minutes.

Oh, forgot to mention, put the filler cap back on when you get the tank back into the boot area and positioned where you want it. Petrol in the boot around a battery is never a good thing!
You may have to prop it up to stop it falling back over the wheel arch too.

I remember reading somewhere about a person who removed the tank and instead of removing to the workshop floor, just put it over to the rhs, right onto the battery terminals.

you need to remove the drain plug from underneath, between the subframe and the beaver panel... so the tank will be empty whether you like it or not

remove the drain, remove the strap, lift it up and swing the filler neck out

Ha Ha. On my rally Cooper S I "neatly" cut a square hole and fitted a hinged flap in the seat upright so as to gain quick access. I mentioned it on a Lindsay Siebler thread as he sold me the car in question.

I know someone that uses a wood chisel to make a flap then fold it back and puts tape over it!

I cut two neat holes in the rear floor of our 99 prado to change the shocks. Taped over them when done.

Please remove the battery before any work in the boot on the tank or fuel system.
Its a 3 minute job- best to be safe!
