Post subject:  what size steering wheel?

Hi all,

Im looking to buy a nice wood steering wheel maybe a Moto lita for my mini... now I know size is a personal preference but what do you all think is 13" too small I'm tossing up between that and 14" to replace the original bus wheel at 15.5".

Smaller means you need to twist harder. that can get pretty annoying if you're in and out of traffic.

13 may give you the irrits pretty quickly..

I've got a 13" Motalita leather one, and also a 14". The !3" is on the car now because it's in better condition, but I prefer the 14", particularly with a big motor's torque. It's less tiring on trips.

[edit] I will swap to the 14" one today, for the Rylstone rally.

It's a Mountney classic. Got it and the boss from the UK for around $250 delivered. It's not as quality as a Moto-Lita, but still very nice. The wood has a very smooth finish to it

Hello all,
Without wanting to highjack this thread completely:
how do you measure the diameter of the steering wheel?
Is 13" the rim-centre to rim-centre diameter? or is it outside-to-outside of rim?
Bill

Little wooden rim wheels can be a pain when your hands get sweaty. They can get slippery.

Hi Bill.

I believe the diameter includes the rim, and not just the spokes.

Hi Bill,

Good question! My guess would be from the outer edge of rim to outer edge of rim, my current standard wheel when measured as described is 15.5 which is an odd number so maybe its measured differently...could somebody please clarify??

cheers.

It is the total outside diameter. I don't think the factory wheels are necessarily made to an even inch size. (My aftermarket 15" wheel is 15" overall diameter)
