Post subject:  Wheel Repair or Restoration

I just picked up a 2nd hand set of hotwires. They have quite extensive peeling of the clear coat on the lips of all 4 and very minor chipping or gutter rash. The centres are still almost perfect, so I just want to get the lips restored.

I'm located in port Macquarie, NSW, so based on the East Coast, does anybody have any recommendations and any ballpark figures of the cost of repairs for wheels?

That would be good. At the moment I'm really just looking for ballpark figures before biting the bullet.

How bad are they, can you machine out the marks?

You could contact Brian Sore at custom wheel finishing (I think) at Kings Park (Sydney) long term Mini Car Club member. They refurbished a set of contessa so for me ages ago. I don't remember the cost sorry.

As a wheel man from way back & still. What you have is corrosion under the clear.
Remedy is to buy a good paint stripper & paint the machined [silver rim] only , 5 minutes & you can wash off all the clear, attack the affected areas with 400 grit wet & dry [slow work] then polish whole rim with Auto Sol . these wheels were Never clear coated originally, just polish when needed. p.s. posting a 10'' wheel any where will be 12 dollars min.each?
