Show us your oil cooler, how big do most people go? How do you mount it

Yeah, I sold mine after doing some back to back tests and a bit of research into modern oil properties after it had been suggested on here that there was no point in fitting one to a road car... My suggestion would be to put the money into changing your oil every 5,000 kms but if you want to run an oil cooler get one of those fancy oil thermostats so you don't end up running your oil too cold as that can be just as bad as running you oil too hot.

I just got back from the Rylestone rally, it about a 6hr? run up to there. Oil pressure on the 1360 sat on 70-75psi the whole way, with NO cooler. Oil is Valvoline Classic 20W/50.

BUT,
If doing any circuit work, YES, I'd fit one. Running hard in the lower gears heats the oil up more.
For hill climbs or drags, I'd not bother.

How would you avoid running oil too cold, drive harder I hear you say!
What would be the consequence of cold oil. I guess i'm trying to say with out oil temp gauge how would you know you had cold oil? What should the normal running temp of oil be?

Because I'm trying to keep my car original mine is still fitted with one. Lately have been running a 84 degree thermostat to keep it nice and hot. I also fit a piece of clear plastic over the front of the oil cooler to reduce its effect.

If it were me, & if i were to have my S as a show car to keep originality (looking)
i`d gut a std cooler, fit just a pipe inside it, so it`s not really cooling, but looks like it`s factory

but only if you don`t drive the car much, or it`s a trailer queen

if you drive hard &/or race the thing long distances very hard, then yes a cooler will help\

most road minis don`t even get oil temp up high enough to lubricate properly
cold oil does not lube well

I ran my 1510cc hard for approx 9 years of race every 2nd weekend & then Targa Tasmania rally & another couple of years racing after Tarag & no oil cooler
90hp , big torque, most mini owners won`t have a clue of the grunt this thing has,,, & No cooler
ready for re-ring & bearing now but nothing wrong with it, just a bit sad from nearly 10 year abuse... again with no oil cooler.

we ran our speedway minis for about 10 years with no cooler too... no problemo

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

Most people fit coolers because they think it is the right thing to do.
Very few people have ever measured oil temps.
The alloy sump is a pretty effective oil cooler on its own.

So is there meant to be support brackets going down to the lower edge of the valance? Mine is just mounted on the folded section using 2 of the 4 screws on the base of the cooler.

they fit with the long flat facing forwards, inside the beaver panel. Mine (originals) have a double layer on the rearward half of the short flat and the forward half as a single layer. The forward half sits under the apron lip and the edge of the double layer butts up against the edge of the lip, making a flat platform for the cooler
