Post subject: | Alloy Rocker Cover doesn't fit?? |
I Recently bought a nice new shiny Alloy Rocker cover but it doesn't fit my engine it is not able to sit flush against the gasket/head because of two bolts either end of the head... the original factory cover has two cut outs either side of it to allow for a flush fit... have I bought the wrong rocker cover? the description from the store reads " Fits all standard A-series engines as fitted to Mini and Moke" the engine number prefix is 9fxey. I forgot to mention I also bought two of the T bars which secure the cover in place the right side screws down nicely but the left side doesn't?? Cheers |

Grind or file it to fit around the bolts Mark |

With the T bars, is the one that doesn't screw down nicely, does it screw on quite a long way but doesn't press against the rocker cover? If so you need a thick washer as the stud is bottoming out inside the T bar. If it just plain doesn't screw on there may be an issue with the threads on the stud or the T bar |

These are built for 9 stud heads (ie your run of the mill Minis). You have a Cooper S head - with 11 studs - and will need to relieve the cover to suit. Use your standard cover as a template. Easy!!!!! |

On my cover, before fitting the T bar... Rubber seal, cup washer, 3mm metal spacer then T bar, also make sure the rubber seal is in good condition, preferably fit new ones. Here's a pic that might help too. Attachment: image.jpeg

I found the rubber rocker cover grommets you buy now are allergic to oil! Once upon a time they were neoprene or similar. Last time I had mine off I flung them, and made some 5mm thick polyurethane washers instead. |
