Hi all, I know different exhaust have different method of joining together (v-band, flanges with bolts, slit in outside pipe and clamp). With these extractors it's not immediately clear to me how I should join these pipes.  The two on the left are to be inserted into the two-to-one pipe on the right. Being the extractors, I need to be able to undo this joint in the future if required, so welding is out. How would you do it? |

Hi. I could be wrong, but I think one simply slots into the other no? Unless they're the same diameter... |

It just seems to me they'd need to be sealed in some way? Maybe I'm over thinking it and I just leave it at that. It just seems like there'd be an exhaust leak if it's an imperfect fit. |

High temp silicon and the brackets hold them in position, no clamps. |

Yes you're right it will leak if you just leave it like that . |

Australian made Perry, and Sonic LCBs were made like that. They were a neat slip fit and didn't leak when new. The bracket held the Y piece up to keep the joint together. However when they got old and rusted they were hard to separate. If they are a neat slip fit, I would assemble with nickel anti-seize in between. I found the copper based anti-seize tended to jam them together- it does get red hot down there. |

Yeah, after years of use they become 1 piece. Alternatively I had a set on my second mini that were not held up by a bracket & would come off while driving! Ended out getting it welded. |

I've stolen a piece of motorbike exhaust technology and have used this method on various cars. Weld or braze a couple of metal loops or tags onto each part to be joined (on opposite sides of the pipe) assemble and use motorcycle stainless steel exhaust springs to hold it together - 2 springs for each join. They come in various lengths, these are 65mm so the tags are 70mm apart. The amount of gas leakage is minimal and the joint remains flexible.

Thanks very much guys - I will fit them as they are and then use one of the products you mention to ensure a good seal. Lovely. I should hear this baby roar into life soon! Especially just sitting on a frame with extractors and no muffler  And curly, why didn't I think of that! My bike have exhaust mounts like that. Though these extractors are ceramic coated, so I will put that option lower down the list as I'd either have to grind off the coating or another clamping method. Champs, thanks all. |

I braze the loops on before getting them ceramic coated
