Post subject:  Importing a Mini into Victoria?

Hi
Looking to see how I can import a sports pack Rover Mini into Australia. I thought I could use the SEVS scheme but being told I have to use a RAWS company. I live in Oz and have just come back from the UK and found the source of some great Mini's, Exchange rate is rubbish at the moment but when I go back next year was thinking that I could buy the car, get the doco then apply for an import permit. shipping seems OK but then I get stuck, can anyone provide what else I need to do and roughly what the cost is.

Cheers

I think you'd be better off getting Japanese import ones. They mostly have air conditioning for a start!

This Rover for example is for sale for about $20k, which is approx £9-10k. The car itself costs $11k, or about £5-6k and the additional cost is all the import and compliance costs. The freight cost would be much higher from the UK, same or similar compliance cost so overal seems easier to buy one from Japan?

The Japanese ones are less likely to have rust. Even well maintained UK ones have some sign of it.
In japan they're treated as prized possessions by the majority of owners and are well looked after.
