Hi guys,

Bought myself a Mini K / Cooper replica parked it in the garage and went to work overseas. Now heading back home and the battery is flat and the petrol has evaporated from the twin tanks. Been 8 months since the engine was fired up.
So where do I start to get it running again. What is needed to resurrect this 50 yr classic so I can get some summer fun motoring.
I also have allowed the rego to expire so does anyone know a good place around Toowoomba to have an RWC done.

If the information is available elsewhere on the forum feel free to point me in the right direction.

If its only been 8 months i would just give it a good service.

IMHO if all the fuel evaporated in 8 months you have big problems. I left mine topped up and it was all there when I got home.

Otherwise just check it over, install a new battery and you should be set to go.

I left mine for 4 years and the only hassle was a sticking electric fuel pump. I pumped a few squirts of oil in each cylinder and cranked it over (without plugs) until there was oil pressure. Then, a few whacks on the pump with a shoe, a (milk) bottle lid of fuel down each carb, and it fired straight up. I then drove it to get a new RWC and drove it home with new rego...

I stored mine with junk tyres and bought new ones while I was away. I have stored it before on blocks with the weight off the tyres and this worked too.

One area of concern might be brake seals but these should be obvious if there's a problem.... the RWC people will call it if you don't notice. Mine were fine.

If there is still fuel in the tanks best off draining it all out.

Charge up your battery or replace/jump start etc.

Pour some fresh petrol into the carby float bowl/s and some into the tanks.

Check it still has oil and coolant, brake and clutch fluid. Pump up the tyres

Start it up and go for a drive. Give the brakes a quick test before hooning away.


8 months isn't really a big deal.

If you need a hand Forbes I can pop over and lend one for you. My car has been laid up for five years, new engine and putting the final touches on it with wiring. Dare say I will be doing the same thing in the very near future.

Edit - Rod Hanson can do your roady I think being the resident mini type here in town. There used to be lads more though but give him a call.
