Post subject: | Champion park plug Failure |
I have only ever had spark plugs fail when using champion's. NGK and Bosch, all good, but Champion's seem to let go. My wife had the car today, and said it was running lke a dog, so when she got home i checked it out. First thought was a head gasket, but i changed the plug that was covered in what looked like Fuel, and hey pesto, off we go! Tomorrow i will change the rest to NGK's. Anyone else had spark plugs fail thru normal use, what brand? Cheers Aaron |

Aaron, just to confound your theory of relativity, I've had NGKs (twice) and Bosch fail in Minis, but never Champions.. ![]() |

Hey just a thought- are the plug leads suppression type, if so how old are they? Unlike me and red wine, they don't improve with age... ![]() |

there not new, but not all that old. I think the plug was just a bad one. If there were another problem i think it would have taken out another plug. If the same cylinder plug goes again, i will change the leads over. I have a few sets hanging about. I might Colour cooridinate and go Blue to match the car! Cheers Aaron |

I've found the Bosch leads from Supercrap are good. $5 each when I bought them a few years back. Still firing good to 8000... ![]() I used to use Top Gun ones, but found every few years (when it rained!) I would get ignition problems, which a new set of leads would fix. And when I checked the old ones the resistance would be higher than the new. |

The willsons had a Huyundai Accsent in there workshop, same drama, was missing big-time under load, shure enuf, when the plugs were pulled, 2 were fouled and the other 2 had worn lop-sided electrodes!!!! slapped in a new set of NGK's and all was good!!!!! Looks like Champions are still built like they used too.....in 1960!!! ![]() |

I remember coming up Bulli Pass in the old HQ many years ago (I was running Champions) , when I heard a god awfull bang and then the car started spluttering and shuddering. Pulled over and checked under the bonet and sure enough one of the leads had come off, when I went to put it back on I got a rude shock, all that was left of the plug was the metal bit with the thread ![]() ![]() |
