Is anyone sporting clamp on mirrors (on the seam), are any better than others, any issues with door clearance etc?

Yes, I have one which I bought from Holden in the UK. Obviously you have to ensure clearance before permanent fixing.

Which style did you get? I've been looking at the Holden's ones as well.
