Hi all, it's been ages since I posted anything here but here goes. I'm still putting a mini together. ....must be the world's slowest rebuild ever. Anyway, do any of you have any tips etc on how to put a new roof lining in. The only helpful You tube clip I found was doing one on a Chevvy or something and it used wire hooks to keep the last bow upright. Are these supposed to be in a mini? Cheers |

firstly you'll need about 20 good bull dog clips. Just start at front or rear and after centering it side to side, guess the distance front to rear, clamp it, then go to other end and pull and clamp it. Check it and adjust it back and forth, if its ok, go to sides and do the same. If you fit and clip it all round with the clips and you're happy with it, get some glasiers two sided tape and put it onto frame sections to hold trim. The tape allows repositioning but will hold it there when you put windows and door pinchweld on. |

Yes I found a free online mini magazine publication and it had it in there. I am going to do mine now because it sounds easy. Let me go and find it on the internet and I'll post a link as soon as I find it. As for your resto being the worlds slowest, mine has been going for 11 years now. |

Hi again and thanks for the replies. Ok, got it in the car and pulled tight front to back. ....held in place with pieces of pinch weld ......sides pulled tight as well and held in place with more pinch weld. I think I now just have to be brave and start cutting and gluing it in place. Wish me luck Ok .....there's other re-builds that are taking longer  but this one does seem to be taking an absolute eternity.

You needn't stress about the wrinkles, they pull taught as a drum with a hair drier once the edges are all glued in place. Apply a dose of heat and pull away starting with a little heat at first and working your way up till you see it pull tight. Its a wonder once you get the knack. Concentrate entirely on the trimming to fit around the 6 pillars. You stare at these a lot while driving, so mistakes haunt you more than the wrinkles might! |

As a warning, my worst mistake was around the rear window. I stretched the vinyl over the cant rail and wrapped the end around the window frame edge and used bulldog clips until I glued it and trimmed the excess vinyl. BUT when the window rubber pushes on to the frame edge, the vinyl became too short and pulled out from under the rubber seal. (It's hard to explain without hand gestures!) Bill |
