G'day all Need to find out if anyone here in Australia produces moke shells anymore. I remember many moons ago someone possibly doing the galvanized shells in the blue mountains or is my mind going to pot! Doing some research for a work friend who has started dabbling in mokes. Any help appreciated. Hooroo |

Mini & Moke World were doing a galvanized Moke tub years ago. I don't know how faithful a repro it was though. AFAIK the only Moke bodies available since then were the `Choke' ones from China, which might be NLA now. And they are not an exact copy. |

There are very knowledgeable people on the Moke forum. Suggest you ask there if no luck here. http://www.mokeforum.com.au/index.php As a starter, Moke Panels in the UK sell a whole body shell, but quite expensive at GBP 5,500. I think Minisport in SA are agents. http://www.mokepanels.com/panels/ |

there were stainless moke bodys made in the sunshine coast (Qld) years ago, but i`m not sure he`s doing them anymore forgotten who it was too  going to end up like my old man with ,,, what was that brain disease called again??? who are you anyways & why are you typing into my micro-wave oven? where`s my chicken-ding??? :-0) |

I think the replacement bodies dried up a fair while back. Remaking them might hit a snag with the fact they won't have ID numbers. |

I just found this post, so thought I'd add my 2c worth. Just a word of caution. Re-shelling a vehicle is, I believe, not legal in any Australian state, so if your friend is looking at getting the Moke shell to rebirth an old rusty or damaged Moke, you may want to check the legalities with the appropriate registration authorities in your state. However, buying a Moke shell and restoring it, using its original identity is completely legal. Cheers, Watto. |

AFAIK the SS bodies required a "ladder chasie" to be installed under them for legal purposes. They were made in Caloundra but I don't know who by. For some reason 20 comes to mind when I think about numbers registered but that number is very sketchy. |

The stainless mokes had what appeared to be a heavy rhs chassis. A few years ago there was one at a Brisbane mini show. |

Just a heads up re the Stainless Steel shells - they have not been available from Don Lawson for some time - He has sold the business where they were produced but had ceased production well before selling up. The new owner had no interest in carrying on production. Don is now retired and into Jags. |
