Post subject:  Comparing the Yokohama A032's to A008's
Hi everyone.

I was hoping to get some opinions on the Yoko A032 tyre. They look great, and have heard they handle absolutely amazingly, but I need to weigh up cost/life expectancy.

for anyone that has the A032's, how long have you got out of your tyres realistically? I do about 5000km a year, and have heard that's all they last.. and if that were the case - $700+ a year in tyres is not a viable solution!

The A008's I have seem decent, but with an upgrade to 6x10 wheels, the A032's would look fantastic.

Opinions would be appreciated :)

I went for the A008's.
I looked at both of these tyres and chose the A008's because I will get more wear out of them and they perform well in all conditions.
The A032's work really well with more neg camber but if you are doing any highway km's this will wear out the insides faster.

As said, A032Rs need more camber. I found turn-in is better with A008s, unless you do this.
But, the A032R is better for traction. And the A008 is lots better for life. You pays yer money, and makes a choice. :)

Last time I looked, Minisport in SA had A008s when Yokohama Australia (as usual) didn't.
But I don't know how the Aus/UK exchange rate has affected their pricing now.

Well I got a set of A008's last year - (my dad now wants them for his car), and I paid $560 for 5 tyres at Bob Jane in Wollongong fitted and balanced which worked out $112 ea which I thought was a great deal.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I recently got (yet to install) the Mini Sport Smootha Ride suspension kit, which I am pretty sure has a negative camber kit included, so not sure if that'd sway the decision.

I do do a few hwy k's though, so for the much better life, maybe the A008's would suffice. The Mini wouldn't be on any track days or anything

Also - When I spoke to Minisport this afternoon,

My A008's have lasted almost 35,000km now, and they still have plenty of tread left. I only have a 998 so traction under power isn't an issue.

They are fantastic for cornering, however they do spin quite easily in the wet under acceleration. Yeah I know, they all do, but more so than other tyres I've used. So they grip great when cornering in the wet, but not as well accelerating or braking in the wet. They are good for both when dry.

Yoko A008s are way better than Falken FK07Es for traction in the wet, which are effing useless. :evil:

I read somewhere that they changed the tread pattern/compound at some stage and the new ones are a lot better. It's possible people are still scarred by the memories of the old style ones?

Could be right, when I had the 1310S motor in mine with new Falkens on, a bog stock RWD Corolla etc would leave me standing at the lights. Every time.
Fitted A008s, no comparison.

I have 12's running Falkens pattern is Falken ZE-912 seems to hold well for my nutcase driving with my 998.
